Historical European Martial Arts
Historical European Martial Arts, or HEMA for short, involves the study and practice of historical European fighting techniques. As a community, we are bringing back to life the dead arts of the old European masters. Find out more about HEMA from the HEMA Alliance.

Schwertschule Chur
Schwertschule Chur is a new HEMA sword school in Chur, Grabünden. A non profit club, we focus on the study and practice of HEMA, with a specific focus on German longsword. Introductory courses will begin on 12th January 2023. You can find out more and become a member here.

Who can take part?
HEMA is an open and inclusive sport. Everyone is welcome. The only stipulations are that you are 18 or over, are interested in learning about HEMA and have personal liability insurance that covers you for the sport. Equipment can be borrowed by beginners (FAQs here).

Who is the Lead Instructor?
Jake Free is the Founder and Lead Instructor of Schwertschule Chur. He has an extensive background in HEMA. He has trained with masters across Europe, setup international HEMA events, and established clubs in four countries. You can find out more here.
